It's also about my family and our day to day lives. He has been having tummy troubles for a couple days now. He had went to school but not felt well at home. I've tried to keep him home but he doesn't want to stay home. He assures me he will tell the teacher if he feels sick. He loves school so much. It make me happy to know that he wants to go so badly. I hope he feels better before this weekend because we have 2 costume parties to go to. He loves to dress up. Last year we had so much fun dressing up together. This year Macey says I have to be what she wants me to be. Uh oh, look out.
Here a few pics of him visiting fire stations lately. At least it will be easy finding him something. Right out of his closet!

Parker is going to have a different teacher and different class again next year. I think it will be a good thing. I think I will like his new teacher. I hope he does as well with him as he did with his last two teachers. He won't have his own aid this year but there will be plenty of people to help him. I worry about this but it will be a watch and see kind of thing. Changes will be made if it doesn't work out. I think it will be good for him though. He is excited about summer but gets bored easily. I want to plan a bunch of activities so we can stay busy. Lots of outdoors stuff is my plan. Two more weeks till school is out. I'm happy and not. Summer always feels long for me with three kids home. Hopefully this summer will be our best yet!

He wants them to either be young or old. I tell him that there are really old people, kind of old, older, young, youngish, etc. He will go up to an older person and ask them if they are old. I tell him that people don't like to be called old but he really doesn't believe me. He loves to ask my mom if she's old. My mom does not like it, lol. She is 72 and would like to say it's 72 years young. His teacher is probably in his 50's but he has grey hair. Parker wants him to be old. I tell Parker he is older, but not old. I wish he didn't need to know if someone was young or old. He used to call people new or old, lol.
His other new thing he likes is to point out someone with a deep voice that's a woman. He'll say, "You're a lady right? Why do you have a deep voice?" Oh, I about want to crawl under the rug when he does that. Now if I hear someone with a deep voice, I stop Parker ahead of time and tell him not to say anything. His behaviorist and I are working on this as week speak.
He also doesn't like it when people have conversations in a different language. Yet, he likes to watch movies and change the language. He is always listening to movies in spanish. I think it helps him understand the language. He is learning a lot of spanish and always asking me to look up a word for him. It's fine with me. I'm not a fan of listening to his movie in french though, I can never understand that, lol.
I love that boy so much. He is so funny. I just want to make sure he doesn't hurt peoples feelings. I tell him that everyone is different. I tell him that if he has a question about someone to ask me privately. He never wants to upset anyone, I think he's just trying to make sense of a world of people that don't fit into neat little categories.

I love Spring! The kids are excited about Easter and I'm excited about all the pretty flowers! I am going to plant a garden of some kind this year, even if it's a container garden. The weather in the summer has been so hot here lately that I know everything will grow well! Happy 1st day of spring everyone!

I am in the midst of it with Parker and am kind of overwhelmed at how to approach it. I guess I thought the hard stuff was over, lol. Funny, the things you don't think about until they are here. Anyone have any good advice? I'm going to read up on it, find social stories and pray to God. Lol!Bobbihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17509297178863467104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556867191623842889.post-58464090675224620862015-03-16T10:11:00.000-07:002015-03-16T10:16:45.730-07:00Obsessions and autismIt seems to me that lots of kids with autism tend to get obsessed with certain things. Movies, toys, characters, collections and books. Parker is currently obsessed with Firefighters, Spongebob, The Wiggles,The 3 Stooges, Dispicable Me, Fireman Sam and of all things, Noahs ark. He really is into Noahs ark. He's not amused that Noah is seemingly wearing a dress. That bothers him a lot. I told him it's like a long shirt. That seems to help him deal with it. He likes that Noah is old, builds a boat and has a bunch of animals. He must have 15 books about Noah. He likes to hear about the people being bad and the flood. Something about it really catches his attention. I'm glad he is interested in the bible. He picks out bible stories when we go to the dollar store. He seems happy about learning even though he does not like to think or talk about death. (It comes up a lot in bible stories)
His obsession with firefighters is a daily thing. He likes to drive by the fire station and see if the doors are open or if anyone is there. (Its volunteer) He likes to look for people in fire station clothes and t-shirts when we are out. He asks me all the time why paid fire stations don't have the word, "Paid" on the outside of the building since volunteer ones have the word volunteer on the outside. He has many questions. Recently we had a big fire in our town and he went to see the last of the fire being put out. He was very excited but sad about the businesses being burned down. His major complaint was that he saw women firefighters. He is a little sexist when it comes to women in uniform. He always wants to know if each fire station has women working there. I try and try and reason with him but he always go back to not liking it. However, if he meets a woman firefighter he is still excited about it. He is a funny guy.
He is very obsessed with his computer and its a chore to get him off it. He watches videos, plays computer games (easy ones) and looks up pictures of things he likes with my help. He is learning to read and spell but not enough to let him search for things.
His obsessions make him very happy. I love buying him things that he is really into. This last birthday it was Spongebob and it made it really easy to shop for him. I hate it when he gets in his Fireman Sam phase because everything thing he wants is mostly in England. I have to search ebay and Amazon and half the time the dvds I order don't work on American dvd players or computers. All the toys you can order online are super expensive too. Right now it's still firefighters, Noah's ark and the 3 Stooges. Those are pretty easy to find. Whatever makes him happy I try and learn about. Boy am I glad he's out of his construction phase. It was hard remembering all the names of all the vehicles.
Hopefully one day he'll get obsessed with something that he can do for a job. What are your kids obsessions?
Here are a few pics of Parkers obessions. Notice the Mermaid Man costume for Halloween. I was Barnacle boy. It was not pretty, lol. For some reason it is not dividing my paragraphs. I'll have to figure this out.

I really look forward to Autism Awareness month!April is Autism Awareness month and I am really looking forward to it. I love wearing my pin and telling people about autism in April.
Local agencies and groups around here have lots of events for kids with autism. Something every week in April. I feel very blessed to live where I do right now. Parker likes the events but I like them more. I love the chance to talk with other parents of kids who have autism. Its so great to feel like you belong, like other people get it. I also like the feeling that Parker can behave any way he wants and it's accepted there.

I don't know why I gave it up. I think it was because of Facebook.
I'm sure tons have changed since I blogged before. Parker is 12 now. He is as tall as me. He is still cuddly and sweet. I love that boy so much. Molly is 16 and is awesome and Macey is 5 and adorable!
Parker is in a special day class at a regular middle school. He likes it very much. His teacher is really fun. He is a new teacher but seems to have a way with kids. He used to be a respite worker.
I just bought Parker a piece of "Chewlry". If you haven't heard about it, it's jewelry that kids can chew on. It keeps him from chewing on his nails, shirt collars and recently; random rocks on the ground. I'm so glad he likes it. The only problem with it is that it makes him all slobbery. Luckily he doesn't use it all the time. I know he likes it because he thanked me the next day after he got it. I can tell he enjoys chewing on it.
Today we went to chruch. We've been going regularly for the past couple months. The kids really enjoy it. I feel so at home at this church. Parker does some singing, some dancing, but mostly plays on my phone. He looks at pictures and watches videos. He looks forward to it. He wears his headphones since there are little kids who could potentially cry. He does really good though. He's better behaved than Macey. One funny thing he does is always passing on the cracker during communion once a month. He's so funny. The people at this church are really good to him. The pastor told me to feel free to get up and go out any time to help him. It's great.
This post is going to be short because it's Parkers bedtime. It feels good to be posting again. I need to get back to it.
We are doing good. Parker is in 5th grade, Molly is in 10th and Macey is 4 and in preschool. Parker is doing boyscouts and really liking it. Macey is loving preschool. Molly is doing FFA, soon to be Tennis and Soccer. She is doing great.
I was going to post some pics but I have a different computer and so far only have a pic of Macey. I will take some of the family tomorrow and post them. Bobbihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17509297178863467104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556867191623842889.post-33568069658414394652013-01-01T23:24:00.000-08:002013-01-01T23:28:34.121-08:00Parker's surpriseThe pastor at the church where Parker goes to youth group told the local fire department about Parker. The fire department was going around to kids with special needs and bringing Santa to them. I knew Parker would absolutly love it! The day they called I told Parker that a surprise was coming for him. I didn't tell him it would be Santa and some firefighters. Firefighters would be more exciting than Santa, but he would be a close second.
When the time came, Bobbys cousin texed us. She was playing Mrs. Claus and dating a fireman, lol.
We saw the lights on the firetruck pull up and we went to the door. Santa, Mrs. Claus and a couple fireman walked up to the door. You should have seen him light up! He was so excited. He didn't know who to talk to first and kind of hid behind me.
After a while he warmed up to them and talked their ear off. They brought teddy bears and candy for the kids. It really renewed my Christmas spirit. They took some good pictures but mine weren't as good. I'll post some when I can. Here is the one I took.

I mean, he isn't severe but he isn't Aspbergers. When I see him at home or at school, he seems only slightly different. Lately I've been taking him to a youth group with typical younger kids, younger than him, and I notice a big difference.
I can't pinpoint how I feel when I notice this. Am I embarrased for him? For me? Am I wondering if it will change? Am I doubting my not fully mainstreaming him? Maybe a little of most. I don't think I'm embarrased myself. He is my boy and I don't mind telling people he has autism. It's harder around younger kids sometimes because they don't know why he is acting the way he is. I don't know how to help him fit in there and I'm not sure if there is even time during the hour to really try and socalize him.
The kids there seem really sweet and the pastor and teacher are awesome! The pastor himself has 2 kids with autism and really does anything to make him feel comfortable. In fact, he is thinking about starting a disability ministry at the chuch. I think he feels a little bit like I do with Parker as far as not noticing it as much until he's around all the other kids.
There is also the learning about God/Jesus/Holy Spirit. I wish I could tell what he understood and thinks. He asks me questions but I don't have half as many answers as I should. He thinks the Holy spirit is like the Christmas spirit and I'm not sure how to explain it to him. He does tell me he doesn't want to go to Heaven. He says it doesn't sound fun and he wants to know what God drives. The only way he would consider heaven was when I told him there were firefighters there, lol.
Anyways, between him laying under the table, raising his hand and then not having a question, not liking any of the treats they hand out, talking during prayer and not wanting to do the group activities, I've seen him for who he is. He is a special guy that needs to be around typical peers more. He needs more modeling what to do and to keep trying. I see so much potential in him. We just need to know how to reach it.

Macey is sleeping and the other 2 kids are at school. I just had coffee and a donut. Ahhhhhh. I feel like making bread or baking something. I should be looking over books and laws for my sons upcoming IEP. He is almost 10 and isn't reading yet. I'm proposing that he gets a one on one aid to help him learn to read. He is falling further and further behind his grade level and reading is the only way he can start catching up. Better get started. I just wanted to get on here and give my blog a new look. I hope everyones Monday is going great.Bobbihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17509297178863467104noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556867191623842889.post-48433875770950082372012-09-21T13:42:00.000-07:002012-09-21T13:42:35.351-07:00Make a wish!

In his current class he doesn't really fit in since most of the kids are more mature and a lot of them just have behavior issues. Then there is his old class with a new teacher whos never taught a special needs class and doesn't have her degree in it. Where does he fit in? I'm keeping him where he is for now but I hope something more fitting comes along but I doubt it. Sigh...Bobbihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17509297178863467104noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556867191623842889.post-81129390766229977662012-09-05T18:06:00.000-07:002012-09-05T18:06:29.380-07:00Mollys birthdayI can't believe my girl turned 14. Parker is doing good in school so far. I'm glad he likes it. He is having a little trouble making friends but I think it will come in time. He is such a sweet boy.
Molly is enjoying cheer and had a good birthday.
That's about it for now. Good night everyone.Bobbihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17509297178863467104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556867191623842889.post-52337057377560047462012-08-29T12:10:00.000-07:002012-08-29T12:10:52.538-07:00My birthday girl and first day of schoolToday my little girl turns 14. I guess she's not little anymore. I'm making her a giant chocolate chip cookie/cake for today and she's having a party Saturday.
The kids both had a pretty good first day of school. I was worried about Parkers class but it seems to have worked out. I freaked out before I had all the information. I think he is in good hands. He was happy to go back today so that's a good sign.
Here are a couple pics of the first day. Parker looks upset because Macey is trying to erase the chalk board and I told her no therefore she was throwing a fit, lol. Parker does not like it when Macey cries. Also I added a cute pic of Macey from a friends going away party.

To make it worse he is getting a cold and won't really tell me how bad he feels. Today everything made him mad from the get go. No one could talk to him or tease him. He was not in the mood. He didn't start getting happier until Macey had a nap. I hope tomorrow he feels better.
On the flip side, Macey was an absolute angel today. I worried that she would always be a little terror but she is doing so much better. I am just in love with this age she is at and all the cute things she says and does. Here's hoping it sticks, lol.

I'm really excited for them. Molly is starting high school and Parker will be starting a new school. I hope he likes it. The teacher seems really fun and he will get to be with some of his old friends. He says he's nervous about it. He says he will miss his old school. I think he will be ok once he starts. They have less aides in this class and it seems like an older kid class, so I really don't know how it will go. I will hope for the best but keep a good eye on things.
Macey has been saying that she wants to go to school. I keep telling her, maybe after you turn 3. We have to wait and see if there is room after her birthday. First we have to work on taking the bottle away and potty training.
I will enjoy some quiet but I have a feeling Macey will be lonely without her brother. We are going to have to go to alot of playgroups or Mom groups.
Here's hoping next week goes well for all the kids.

Not a lot, but some for sure. Maybe it's because school is out, maybe it's he's not getting enough time away from his sister or maybe it's because he needs more sleep or is maturing some. I just don't know. He has been quicker to anger and quicker to say no to us. Lately when we've told him to do something he doesn't want to do, if he's in any kind of bad mood he'll say no and stand his ground.
Sometimes we need to be more patient with him and say things a different way. I really think we are keeping him up to late because it's mostly at night when it happens. Sometimes he'll refuse to brush his teeth or get angry if the wrong person is reading to him at night. One night I told him we needed to change his underwear because I thought they were dirty. He insisted they weren't and would not take them off. I could see that they were and told him he had to. He said no for a long time. Finally he did it but he was mad and said he wanted to hit me. Poor guy.
He seems happy most of the time at home. I'm going to try getting him to bed earlier and spending more one on one time with him and see if that helps. I'm also going to talk to his behaviorists on how I should handle it when he says no.
Today I bought him some new books and he was really happy. I read them all to him tonight and he told me to come visit him in a little while. I'm really thinking he needs a little extra attention right now.
Well, I guess I'll end this post. Someone needs visiting. :)Bobbihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17509297178863467104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556867191623842889.post-6813447098540663712012-07-25T22:54:00.000-07:002012-07-25T22:54:08.457-07:00Play!Parker has really been playing with Macey lately! It's such a great thing. She is becoming a good playmate to him and really teaching him things. They are both learning from eachother and Macey loves him so much. They are so cute together. Who knew they would want to play together with such an age gap. Also, having autism, Parker doesn't like to play that much. He prefers the computer, books and talking about firefighters. It makes me really happy.
Parker is also learning to say no to her. He wouldn't and would always give her what she wanted. Now he is toying with saying no and even sticking to his guns. I praise him for it because he used to be afraid to say no or not give her something. He didn't want her to cry. Even when I would tell him not to give her something he would. Or when she would tell him no he would listen even if I said yes. It's a step in the right direction.Bobbihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17509297178863467104noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556867191623842889.post-59189979253008797412012-07-20T08:06:00.000-07:002012-07-20T08:06:28.850-07:00Firefighter gamesYesterday Parker and I went to a neighboring town to watch the, "Firefighter games". The firefightes from the county come and have races and relays. Since Parker's obsession is firefighters, we had to go.
Now of course I wasn't sure of what Parker's expectations were. I assumed he thought he would get to talk to lots of them and have a great time. I hoped they would have more time for him this year. Last year most of them were so busy they didn't have time to talk.
I warned him ahead of time that they might be busy a lot but that we would still have fun. We talked about what he would say and how he could just say Hi instead of just blurting out a bunch of random questions.
Lucky enough right away he met a really nice firefighter that talked to him for a while. His wife was an office lady at his old school. They were so nice to him and he had a great time. When he is really happy he hops up and down and kind of snaps his fingers. He was doing that yesterday. He was in heaven.
We watched the games, walked around to stalk firefighters and talked about what they were doing a whole bunch. We didn't stay for all of it, which I felt bad about. We stayed for an hour but I was getting tired. He got to talk to at least one person from each firestation so he was happy. When we were leaving we ran into a nice firefighter that let him get in the truck. He was a content boy.
We didn't bring the other kids with us, this was just a Parker and I thing. He needs that sometimes. All in all I was happy about how things went and it did live up to his expectations.
